1 Getting started
Welcome to Typeless! You only need three steps to start dictating with your voice:
- Visit the official Typeless platform, create an account, and download the app for your device.
- Grant microphone permission and complete the one-time voice calibration.
- Press the default shortcut in any app—and you’re live.
2 Install & Sign in
Supported platforms
- Desktop: macOS 12+, Windows 10/11
- Mobile: iOS 15+, Android 9+
Account sign-in
Sign up with email or use one-click Google sign-in. Your personal dictionary and preferences sync across devices on the same account—configuration only, never voice content.
3 Smart Dictation
Typeless is more than speech-to-text. It uses AI to clean up and polish what you say in real time:
- Automatically removes filler words like “um,” “uh,” and “you know.”
- Detects mid-sentence revisions and keeps only your final intent.
- Strips out repetitions so your message stays concise.
- Formats lists and steps with proper structure.
- Adapts tone to context—formal for work email, casual for chat.
Start dictating
Place your cursor in any input field (email, messaging app, document editor, browser) and press the dictation shortcut to begin speaking. Press it again to stop, and the polished text is inserted at your cursor.
4 Speak-and-Translate
Need to message a colleague or friend in another language? You don’t have to switch tools—just speak in your native language and Typeless writes it in the target language.
- Open Settings and switch on Translate mode, then pick your target language.
- Activate dictation and speak naturally in your own language.
- Typeless outputs natural, native-sounding text in the target language.
Supports translation between 100+ languages, with quality close to a native speaker’s writing.
5 Ask AI
Select any text, press the Ask shortcut, and speak your instruction. Typeless responds instantly:
- Edit text: “Make this sound more professional,” or “Shorten this to under 50 words.”
- Query text: “Summarize this article,” “Explain this code,” or “Translate this to French.”
- Quick answers: “What’s the weather in San Francisco today?” or “Brainstorm 5 headlines for me.”
6 Personalization
Personal dictionary
Add common names, brands, and technical terms to your personal dictionary. Typeless prioritizes them for higher accuracy and consistent spelling.
Writing style
Typeless gradually learns your phrasing, tone, and habits, so the output sounds more and more like you over time.
Context-aware adaptation
The app recognizes the program you’re using (Outlook leans formal, WhatsApp leans casual) and tunes the output style accordingly.
7 Privacy & Security
- Zero cloud retention: voice data is cleared the moment processing finishes.
- Never used for training: your dictation is never used to train AI models.
- Local-only history: dictation history lives on your device and is accessible only to you.

8 Shortcuts
- Start / stop dictation: press and hold the Fn key (macOS) or Ctrl + Shift + ; (Windows)
- Launch Ask AI: select text, then press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + A
- Toggle Translate mode: Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + T
Every shortcut can be customized under Settings → Shortcuts.
9 Troubleshooting
Microphone isn’t responding?
Check your system settings under Privacy → Microphone and confirm Typeless is allowed to access the microphone.
Recognition accuracy seems low?
Try the following: 1) work in a relatively quiet environment; 2) add common terms to your personal dictionary; 3) re-run the voice calibration flow.
